The Antipodean Wine
Fine "old world" wine of first growth quality from a single vineyard planted in the
1970s at Matakana, Northland, New Zealand. The Antipodean -- "New Zealand's Lafite" -- is a blend of
cabernet sauvignon, merlot and malbec, with harmony, fragrance, length and seamless integration of
character. Hailed as "New Zealand's Lafite" [French Count Jean De St Charles] and as "the first real
red wine" [wine writer Nicholas Faith] to come out of New Zealand. The Antipodean has been described
by Nicholas Bryant in the National Business Review as making "The best red wines produced in
this country."
The wine is mainly exported but a select few places in New Zealand stock the wine including:
Regency Duty Free, Auckland International Airport; The Matakana Store, Matakana; Huka Lodge, Taupo;
Millbrook Resort, Queenstown; Tribeca Restaurant, Newmarket; Whites at the Hilton Hotel, Auckland;
Sandpiper Lodge, Tawharanui and The Castle Matakana, Matakana.
